Cree Lighting Enhances Traveyo® Series Street Lights with DALI and Amber Light Options
DURHAM, N.C., February 2, 2021 – Cree Lighting’s Traveyo® Series LED Street Light portfolio is now available with turtle-friendly amber light technology and Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) options for all configurations in the series. The new additions to the portfolio offer cities and utilities the ability to provide better lighting control and a warmer color temperature for the visual comfort and safety of both people and wildlife.
“Cree Lighting is focused on providing our customers with better lighting solutions to meet all their needs,” said Erik Milz, vice president of Product Management at Cree Lighting. “This involves seeing the bigger picture of how lighting fits into our interconnected, ever-changing world. Controls options support flexibility and future-readiness while our proven amber light optics allow communities to coexist with local wildlife in a more positive way.”
The Traveyo® Series offers municipal and utility customers a quality lighting experience with exceptional performance and future-ready engineering built in, all at an affordable cost. The portfolio is Design Light Consortium (DLC) Premium certified to provide optimum value and energy efficiency. It also features a standard 7-pin NEMA® photocell receptacle that is pre-wired for dimming and network controls. Now available with DALI, the Traveyo® Series offers better lighting control for robust, scalable and flexible lighting networks, allowing devices to be controlled individually or by groups. DALI’s digital nature also enables two-way communication between the luminaire and control node so that users can easily be aware of each luminaire’s operating status.
Cree Lighting’s amber light technology is designed to minimize disruptions to activity cycles and behaviors of many life forms, including reptiles, insects and mammals, as compared to other forms of artificial light at night. In contrast, the glare and cooler temperatures of most other artificial light often discourage sea turtles from nesting and hatchlings can become disoriented as they attempt to find the ocean.
“It’s important to recognize that not all amber lights are wildlife-friendly,” said Milz. “Cree Lighting uses true monochromatic amber LEDs to produce light wavelengths that are virtually invisible to turtles and other wildlife, whereas other amber lights may use phosphor-converted LEDs that still produce blue-wavelength light.”
With its turtle-friendly (TRL) amber LEDs and lumen packages, the Traveyo® Series joins a growing number of Cree Lighting outdoor product families that follow the guidelines of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which is charged with protecting the majority of the U.S. sea turtle population. Other turtle-friendly products include the RSW® Series street and roadway luminaires, THE EDGE® Series lighting for pathways, common spaces and parking lots, the LEDway® Series street and roadway luminaires and the 304 Series® canopy and soffit lighting.
